History

The shrine was constructing in AD 849-892 by King Gunaga Vijayaditya III of the Eastern Chalukyas & Peddapuram Maharaja give out to this shrine. As per the origin of this location, Bikkavolu village has 108 temples constructed by King Turpu Chalukya, Narendra Mrugaraju, who was the father of Vikramaditya, the great emperor of the 8th century. King Narendra Mrugaraju waged 108 wars and killed many soldiers, to free himself from this sin, Narendra Mrugaraju built 108 temples on the shore of the Holy Godavari temple.

Among these 108 temples, some were demolishing by Turushka & others were demolished by nature. Three shrines can now see the courts of the village of Bikkavolu. Sri Subrahmanyeswara & Golingeswara Swamy shrines are locating in the center of Bikkavolu village. Subsequently, the Bikkavolu area of Toorpu Chalukya came under the domination of Peddapuram Maharaja.
