History
As per Mahabharatha, Maharishi Vyas & his pupils and wise man Viswamitra clear to settle down in a cool & calm atmosphere after the Kurukshetra War. In the quest for a peaceful house, he came to Dandaka forest & pleased with serenity of the area, shortlisted this location. Since Maharishi Vyasa spent considerable time in prayers, the location was then whooped “Vasara” & turned into Basara due to the effect of the Marathi language in this area.
It’s as well faith that this shrine is one of the 3 shrine built near the meeting of the Manjira & Godavari rivers. Actual, ‘Bijialudu’ a Karnataka king, who ruled the region of Nandagiri with Nanded as his capital in the 6th century, built the shrine at Basara. In the 17th century, the icons of the temple were restore by a chieftain of Nandagiri (Nanded) subsequent to destruction caused by Muslim invaders.
