There’re a duo of stories which portray the importance of Varalakshmi Vratham. One among them is the tale of “Shyamabala”. The Queen Sura Chandrika & the King Bathrasiravas had a daughter named Shyamabala. The daughter was wed to the prince of a neighbouring kingdom.

Once Shyamabala was at her parent’s kingdom when she marked that her mother, Queen Sura Chandrika was driving out an old woman. The old woman has asked her mother to mark a Varalakshmi fast & perform a Varalakshmi puja. The Queen asked her to leave & didn’t hear to her as the old lady was a beggar.

But, the daughter Shyamabala admit the old woman & carefully listened to the importance of Varalakshmi Vrata. After go back to her own kingdom, Shyamabala marked the Varalakshmi fast & performed a Varalakshmi puja as directed by the old woman. Since that day, the prince obtain valuing for his sound governance & the kingdom began extol & thriving day by day.

But, on the other side, the parents of Shyamabala were facing many bothers. People were rebel against them. In a short span, they lost all their wealth as well. Listening this, Shyamabala sent them pots of gold but they as well turned into ashes, the moment Queen Surachandrika set her eyes on them.

After hearing this incident, Shyamabala call to mind the incident when her mother was driving away that old lady. She felt that the old lady was none other than Goddess Lakshmi in pretend to be. On realizing this, Shyamabala asked the Queen to mark a Varalakshmi fast and organize a Varalakshmi puja in the palace. The Queen performed the same & was notably able to once again achieve the past renown back. Varalakshmi Puja is notably famous in South India and this event is marking by men & women similar to get the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi & to escort in wealth and prosperity in their lives.
