Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple Darshan – Arulmigu Murugan Temple, Thiruparankundram is a Hindu shrine devoting to the god Murugan (as well popular as Kartikeya) at Thiruparankundram, Tamilnadu, India. It’s regarding as one of the “1st Houses of Murugan”. The shrine utilizes rock-cut architecture & is faith to have constructed by the Pandyas during the 6th century. As per folk tale, Murugan slayed the demon Surapadman & married his partner Devasena at the shrine. Murugan is as well said to have revered his father Shiva at the site as Parangirinathar.

History

Epitaph proof in the shrine points to an origin as a Jain cave. Other theories recommend that the Murugan shrine existed much before the 6th century & was converting into a Jain temple by Jain monks under the aegis of Pandya king Koon Pandiyan. The shrine was later converting into a Hindu temple under the tutelage of Gajapathy, the minister of a later Pandya King, during the latter part of the eighth century.

The shrine got many additions during the regime of Madurai Nayaks, who commissioned the pillared halls in the shrine. As of 2021, the temple is kept & administered by the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
