Myth behind Angarki Chaturthi

As per Ganesha Purana’s Upasana Khand (one of the 3 divisions in the Vedas), Goddess Prithvi (mother earth) brought up Mangala, sage Bharadwaj’s son, til 7 years of age & then get back the kid to his father. The boy learned Vedas & Puranas (scripture) from his father. The boy showed great loyalty towards Lord Ganesha & wanted to mark expiation to get his blessings. Wise man Bharadwaj taught him Ganapati mantra & sent him to meditate upon the benevolent God.

He honestly prayed to Lord Ganesha for many years & on Magha Krishna Chaturthi (4th waning Moon during mid-Jan to mid-Feb), Ganesha blessed the boy by showing his universal form. Ganesha told the boy that he could ask for any boon, as he was influenced by the boy’s devotion. The boy answered, “O Lord. I would like to have ambrosia with all the Gods in heaven.
