Architecture of Eklingji Temple Udaipur
Eklingji Temple has an amazing building design. The temple is dual storied with huge pyramidal style roof & very carved tower which adds to its beauty.
Exterior– The outer walls of temples are stretching with stairs which directly subside in the water.
Entrance– On entering the temple, you’ll greet a silver image of Nandi (bull). As per myth, Nandi is thinking about to be the gate-guardian god of Mountain Kailas. There’re 2 other carvings of Nandi in brass & black stone in the temple.
Interior– The 4-faced icon of Lord Shiva or Eklingji is placed in the main temple. The statue is placed in a towering pillared hall whooped a mandap.
Four-faced statue– The icon is about 50 feet in height & is made out of black stone. The 4-faced figure portray 4 different forms of Lord Shiva. The eastern side recognizes Surya (the sun), western side recognizes Lord Brahma (the ultimate maker), northern side recognizes Lord Vishu(the supreme being) & the southern side is Rudra (the mightiest of the mighty). History of Eklingji Temple Udaipur
The history of Eklingji Temple is recording in the Ekalinga Mahatmya, a historical text written in the 15th century. As per the text, the original temple was constructing in 734 A.D. by ruler Bappa Rawal. The temple has a sufferer of loot & plunders during the rule of Delhi Sultanate. The original temple & its icons were physically harm.
In the late years, the temple was renovating & modified by many kings to conserve the renown and believe of people in Shri Eklingji. The temple originally belonged to Pashupata sect, then Nath sect & post 16th century it is managing & controlled by Ramanandis.

Renovation Process
In the 14th century, post-invasion, the 1st god was placed by Hamir Singh in the major temple. 15th century, Rana Kumbha modernize the temple by adding the Vishnu temple. In the 1460 wording, Rana Kumbha is explaining as the abetter of Lord Eklingji.
Later in the 15th century, the temple was again attacked by the Malwa Sultanate’s Ghiyath Shah. He was defeating by the Rana Raimal, the son of Rana Kumbha. Rana Raimal captured Shah & obtain ransom for his release. He utilizing the money to restore the fame of the temple. This was the final rebuilding of the temple & an icon of Eklingji was installing in the main temple complex.
