The FAME India Scheme 2024 was launched keeping in mind the pollution caused by diesel and petrol vehicles. The first phase of the scheme has already been done by the concerned officials of the Government of India. Now, the second phase of the plan was launched under which the Government of India will provide 670 electric buses in the states of Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, and Chandigarh and it is also said that 241 charging stations will be provided on the roads of Madhya Pradesh. , Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, and Port Blair. This will help in the development of electric vehicle sectors.

The FAME India scheme has been launched to encourage electric vehicle purchases. Through this scheme, the government is going to give subsidies on the purchase of new electric vehicles, which will promote electric mobility. The government has extended the FAME II scheme for 2 years. Now, this scheme will be applicable till 31 March 2024. Earlier this scheme was started 2019 on 31 March 2024. Necessary charging infrastructure for electric vehicles will also be set up under this scheme. The FAME India scheme has been launched with the aim to address the issue of environmental pollution and fuel shortage. Under this scheme, the government has increased the subsidy incentive from Rs 10000 per kWh to Rs 15000 per kWh.

Features of the Fame India 2024

  • The Department of Heavy Electricity (DHE) aims to support 7000 electric e-buses, 5 lakh e-three-wheelers, 55000 e-four-wheeler passenger cars, 10 lakh e-two-wheelers, and supporting charging stations.
  • The budget earmarked for the second phase of this scheme is Rs 10,000 crore.
  • By January 2024, DHI has approved 6690 electric buses, and 3.32 lakh electric vehicles apart from 3297 charging stations across the country.
  • The demand creation part of the scheme was realized in the first phase by reducing the cost of vehicles and making them economical.
  • Officials observed over the four-year period of the plan that there were not enough charging stations to support electric vehicles.
  • This issue is being addressed in this follow-up phase of the plan.
